The woman protagonist of the reports of the week

Last week International Women's Day was celebrated and on television it was also celebrated in different ways, of which I want to highlight these reports that always stand out for their quality. The woman was the protagonist of the documentaries on television, specifically the Thematic Night and TV Documents (on TVE).

As always, the hours at which these programs are broadcast did not allow me to see all the reports, but I tell you that I saw fragments of two of them that I found very interesting and that I recommend. In addition, as I have checked you can see complete on-line At least for now.

The most shocking report seems to me of "Do not cry woman", which reviews the conditions in which women give birth in the world. The documentary has its origin in the complications suffered by the Christy Turlington model during her birth, a circumstance that led her to become aware of the severity of maternal mortality in the world.

It is an American production about the barriers that women face in the world to access quality reproductive health, a reality that we often forget in our "first world". More than half a million women lose their lives every year, due to complications during childbirth and pregnancy. 90% of those deaths could be avoided.

Maternal health is considered a fundamental human right but it finds barriers in any corner of the world, even in developed countries like the USA, where one in five women of reproductive age does not have medical insurance.

In this sense, the documentary tells how restricted access to health care is a tragedy for many women and how certain associations try to help pregnant women without resources.

The theme night: "Essence of a woman"

On the other hand, the documentaries of “The thematic night” also did not disappoint, within the special program of the week Awareness with Equality, they dedicated themselves to the “Essence of women”, approaching the roots of femininity without taboos: menstruation, menopause, orgasm.

Personally, I am more interested in issues about menopause (is a woman less a woman who does not have the rule?) And menstruation (is she really as influential in our behaviors as women?), But also the orgasm documentary I think It has an interesting approach.

We leave you the synopsis of the three documentaries so you can see if you find them interesting.

  • "The moon in you."
This documentary shows a journey towards the deepest roots of femininity and life. Analyze what is currently still a taboo in our modern society for both men and women: menstruation. With irony and humor, the topic is deepened through personal and collective references, challenging our preconceived ideas about femininity. Why does a sign of something that society considers a blessing (the woman's ability to give life) turn out to be named after expressions like 'the curse' (the curse) in Britain, 'the english war debaquement' (the landing of British war) in France, or 'to be on the raqs' (being with the fury) in the United States?
  • "Women without pause."
Documentary that interviews women from all over the planet; all over 45 years old. From Japan, the country with the longest life expectancy, to Tanzania, through France, Spain and Ecuador, in this documentary we meet mothers, wives, housewives, gynecologists, businesswomen. The menopause period is little known by more than half of the female population. And it has never been explained to women what happens in their body throughout life.
Documentary that offers insight into women's sexual dysfunctions and how “big pharmaceutical companies” and marketing campaigns try to launch new products to solve them, but to what extent is the lack of desire or difficulty in reaching the Orgasm should be subject to medication? Many women anxiously await the appearance of the cream, the spray or the pill that could solve their problems, the race to be the first to get it takes time started. The prize: without any doubt, thousands and billions of dollars.

Both in "Essence of woman" and "Do not cry woman" we will find themes that touch our conscience, that make us laugh, think and cry, with more or less known real stories of our world and others that seem more distant. If you missed them, I recommend you take a look at these interesting documentaries that have women as protagonists.
