Every year since 1994, the International Family Day May 15th. The United Nations proclaimed the celebration of that day the previous year and since then it is a date set for awareness campaigns about the needs of the world's families and the importance of the family nucleus for human development.
The theme chosen for 2012 is "Achieve a balance between work and family"and emphasizes the importance of ensuring that there is a true reconciliation between personal and family and work life.
The message of the Secretary General of the United Nations on International Family Day 2012 has been as follows:
This year, International Family Day highlights the need to strike a balance between work and family. The objective is to help workers around the world to meet the economic and emotional needs of their families, while contributing to the socio-economic development of the society in which they live.
I really believe that the measures taken to promote conciliation always tend to understand it as trying to provide more childcare more hours a day, but it is not really serious to protect fathers and mothers so that they can take care of their children personally, reduce the conference, ensure that pregnancy and breastfeeding is not discriminated against, or simply prevent fathers and mothers from undergoing pressure if they have to go home when their children are ill.
