"The first steps" of Van Gogh, a tender family scene

Sometimes we like to talk about works of art related to childhood and motherhood, and today we stop at a painting that is not among the best known of Van Gogh, but that shows "The first steps" of a creature.

The table shows those first steps that the hesitant girl will take (it seems to me a girl, although I have read reviews that speak of a boy), helped by her loving and caring parents. Doesn't it move you to those exciting moments of your children's first steps?

This beautiful composition was created by Van Gogh as a tribute to his sister-in-law who was expecting a son in 1890. Her brother and she planned to name the child Vincent if he was a child, as it finally happened.

We see how the father abandons his work in the garden to encourage the girl to reach him from her mother's arms. In the scene there is a wheelbarrow, a shovel, a rake to complete the rural atmosphere and the protagonists are dressed in country clothes and simple clothes of the time.

In the picture is reflected the painter's joy at the happy news, with a stage full of powerful light, fast strokes, blunt and caracoleantes most times, in a sea of intense yellows and greens. Van Gogh was inspired by a print by Jean-François Millet (1859), although he adapted it to his art.

We have told you about the baby's first steps, everything that must be taken into account when you start walking, as well as the safety tips at home and on the street for babies who start walking or the most appropriate shoes for the first Steps. But today we wanted to give a different view on this milestone in the development of children.

"The first steps" of Van Gogh bring us many memories and introduce us to the family scene in a delicious way, encouraging the girl to take those first and hesitant steps successfully, wanting her to succeed. Will you finally get it?
