One in two children under 18 has a smartphone in Spain

The bq company published a few days ago the results of I Study of technological consumption habits which indicates that 5 out of 10 children under 18 have a smartphone. Apparently the number is not surprising if we consider that one of the star gifts of First Communion are mobile phones. From what I have been able to read in the blog of Diana González, 30% of the 10-year-old Spanish kids have a mobile phone, when they turn 12, they jump to secondary school, almost 70% use a mobile device and when They turn 14, the percentage rises to 83%. In the next infographic, published in bq, you can see more details of this type of consumption among Spanish children.

I'm surprised because I think there are many ways to manage access to digital content among kids, for example, I think at school they don't need a mobile phone, unless the school determines it, and at home you can choose surplus technology that improves the experience of having a smartphone: computers, tablets, consoles, etc. which also allow access to social networks, if that is the demand. I think that a device that should be encouraged more in school, at least in my daughter's, they tell her to read on paper, is a reader of books digital I find it more comfortable, easier to transport, generates reading habits and parents can know if they read or not by synchronizing the content with them.

When we were with Guillermo Cánovas, from Protégeles and Disney, knowing the challenges of having a secure Internet, he told us about the digital divide between being an Internet consumer and being a content generator on the Internet. So for parents the challenge is not just to offer them the smartphone and leave them entertained with it, the goal is be active Y generate content on the internet sharing and learning with them.
