Hippo cookies decorated with fondant. Recipe to make with children

After a week of absence, we return with another cookie recipe, made with different ingredients and which in my view are very fun to do with children. Although we have prepared some hippo cookies decorated with fondant, the same recipe can be made with other animals, depending on the mold of cutting cookies that you have at home.

The important thing here are two things. On the one hand the cookie dough recipe and on the other the decoration technique in which you can have a great time with your children I'm sure you will enjoy stretching and trimming the fondant to "dress" the cookies once baked.

Ingredients for 12 cookies

  • For cookies: 190g of butter, 1 M-size egg, 75g of icing sugar, 325g of flour, a pinch of salt
  • To decorate: blue or purple fondant, cover chocolate and sugar eyes

How to make hippo cookies decorated with fondant with children's help

To make this recipe, the children can help us in the kneading tasks, cut the cookies with the cutter, and finally in the decoration of the cookies with the fondant. I tell you how to do them step by step.

Cut the butter into small pieces and mix it with the glass sugar, kneading to form a ball. Then add the flour, the pinch of salt and once everything is integrated, wrap the resulting ball and leave it 20 minutes in the fridge.

We spread the dough between two plastics, pressing with a roller until obtaining a sheet of about 4 mm high. So that the forms of the hippos are preserved well, we return to store the dough another 20 minutes before cutting the cookies.

We cut the hippos with the cutter, we leave them on a tray with a baking paper and we make them in the oven at 165º until they are golden brown. Since the shape of the hippo is large, we may have to take advantage of the cuts to make other cookies with another format.

Once baked we let the cookies cool on a rack to make them very hard. For decoration, we extend the fondant with the roller and cut with the same hippo mold. As the cookies have grown when baked, the form will give to cover almost all the cookie.

Cut the head of the fondant cut so that that part of the cookie is not covered and paste it on it by varnishing with a little water. With a drop of cover chocolate used as glue, we hit the eyes of the hippos and we outline the smile on the cookies that have lost their mouths. Ready for the snack, with a good glass of milk.

Tasting

These hippo cookies decorated with fondant They are very rich and are doubly enjoyed because both the legs and the head that do not have fondant cover as the body that is decorated with this sugar paste have different flavors, which are richer. They are ideal for gifts, but it is best to enjoy them with your children and eat them saying, "I am so hungry that I would eat up to a hippo" or play the king of the jungle ... letting the imagination fly.
