What are your fertile days?

Are you looking for a baby? There are those who get pregnant at first and women who have a few months, even more than a year. When planning a pregnancy it is essential to learn to recognize your period of maximum fertility, so watch out because we will teach you to identify your fertile days to achieve pregnancy.

There are women who have little knowledge of their menstrual cycle, a fact that is essential to identify when you are more likely to get pregnant. Even so, having sex during the period of maximum fertility does not imply a safe pregnancy, so it is important not to become obsessed.

The menstrual cycle

The menstrual cycle varies from one woman to another, and even in the same woman it can vary from month to month. A regular menstrual cycle has a average duration of 28 days counted from the first day of menstruation, but it is considered normal to last between 21 and 35 days.

It has two very different phases: the follicular phase and the luteal phase. The first part of the cycle occurs between day 1 and half of the cycle, day 14, in which approximately ovulation occurs. During this first part, between day 1 and 6 approximately (although it can last between 3 and 7 days) menstruation occurs.

From the first day of the period until the middle of the cycle there is an increase in estrogen. A new egg begins to mature and days later it is expelled by the ovary. During the days when the ovum descends through the fallopian tubes until the uterus occurs ovulation.

The 6-7 central days of the cycle are your fertile days (on day 14, plus the previous 3 days and the next 3 days). If you have sex during these days and a sperm fertilizes the egg and it adheres to the walls of the uterus, it will start a pregnancy.

The second half of the cycle, the luteal phase, occurs between day 15 and 28. During the first two or three days you can still be ovulating, that is, you can get pregnant. During this phase there is an increase in progesterone, which can cause nervousness or irritability until the arrival of your next period, unless you have become pregnant.

Keep in mind that sperm can last alive within a woman's body for 48 to 72 hours. Therefore, if you have sex two or three days before ovulation, lowering the ovule could be fertilized by a sperm that has been left alive.

Irregular menstrual cycles

Not all women have the period every 28 days. There are those who have longer cycles, in which ovulation occurs after day 14 and others with shorter cycles in which ovulation is advanced.

As we said before, there are also women who experience different cycles every month, that is, not all of their cycles are regular, for example those with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), a very common and generally mild hormonal imbalance, which affects 8 of Every 100 women

Keeping track of your menstrual cycles is a tool that will help you, whether you have regular or irregular cycles, to identify your periods of maximum fertility, combined with the observation of the signs of ovulation that we discuss below.

Ovulation signs

How to recognize the days on which ovulation occurs? During ovulation, the woman experiences hormonal changes that produce alterations in her body. We don't usually pay attention to these changes, but it's a good way to recognize your period of maximum fertility to achieve pregnancy, especially for those women with irregular cycles.

Vaginal discharge

Throughout the menstrual cycle there are significant changes in vaginal discharge, so observing cervical mucus can help us identify when you are ovulating.

During ovulation, the cervical mucus increases and its consistency becomes increasingly sticky and elastic, similar to that of egg white, to help sperm to reach the ovum. You can insert your finger into the vagina or take a small sample with toilet paper to check its appearance. When ovulation concludes, the mucus loses elasticity and becomes more sticky and dry.

Basal temperature

Basal temperature is body temperature when we wake up without moving from bed. It is related to the woman's menstrual cycle, so certain temperature changes will indicate that ovulation will occur. The synergistic method of fertility is based on these temperature changes in women.

The basal temperature remains low until ovulation occurs, but when it occurs, due to the effect of progesterone, the basal temperature rises between two and five tenths. That increase is maintained until the end of the cycle, when the next menstrual period begins.

It is very important that you be precise when taking the basal temperature. You must do it when you wake up and without moving out of bed. Follow here all the instructions on how to take the basal temperature to know the fertile days, you must also learn to interpret the basal temperature table to make sure you are doing things right.

To control your basal temperature you can use this basal temperature table to print or you can also help some applications to control ovulation and know the fertile days.

We hope that with these tips you can learn to identify what your fertile days are to achieve the much desired pregnancy.
